Bargaining Process
When and how we bargain depends on which work unit is involved, but the process is always the same.
It really begins as soon as we have finished one round of bargaining, but as we get closer to the expiry date of the current collective agreement (or contract) we prepare by:
- Surveying the membership and reviewing the results.
- Electing a Bargaining Committee.
- Electing a Strike Committee.
- Discussing what proposals to put in the proposal package at meetings of the Bargaining Committee.
- Requesting information from the Employer.
- Holding a Bargaining Proposal Ratification meeting with the members.
- Issuing the Notice to Bargain.
